It was a pleasure serving as a judge for the José Martí Awards for the third consecutive year.

The NAHP José Martí Award Judges shared that the quality of this year’s entries was exceptional, especially within the digital field. The 2021 Latina Publisher of the Year Award was presented to Bel Hernandez, Publisher of Latin Heat. The 2021 Latino Publisher of the Year Award was presented to José Luis B. Garza, Publisher of El Periodico USA.

     The Conference included more workshops than any NAHP event since 2016, in four key tracks: Content, Digital Evolution, Management, and Ways to increase Revenues. These wonderful presentations from people like Martha de la Torre, EC Hispanic Media; Gabriel Soto, Edison Research; Tracie Powell, The Pivot Fund; Alberto Pardo, Adsmovil; Isabella Sanchez, Zubi Advertising; Michelle Faust Raghavan, Solutions Journalism Network; Fernando Diaz, Digital Specialist; Xarel Cassina, Altura Interactive; Anita Grace, Grace Multicultural; Anntao Diaz, Google; Melanie Sloane, Zenger News Service; Ron Burke, NNPA; Julian Giraldo, RCN Television; Isis Harmon, Digital Marketing Specialist; Sarah Gustavus Lim, Solutions Journalism Network; Rafael Ulloa, La Planeta; and Mike Blinder, Publisher of Editor & Publisher Magazine. The Conference was co-chaired by Evelyn Castro and Will Medina, and emceed by Pedro de Armas and Christy Martinez Garcia. NAHP Conference Partners included NAHP Media, AdsMovil, NTN24, National Newspaper Publishers Association, Association of Alternative NewsMedia, PopMount, and Empowering Latino Futures.

     Currently the NAHP has 232 media entities as members, the most member media entities since 2002. In fact, in the last six weeks alone we’ve added 33 new media entities to the NAHP family. NAHP membership has grown 53% since 2020 and 527% since 2016.
